Did you sign the Avaaz Petition against whaling in Norway? I am not pro whaling but very much pro ‘correct information’. Avaaz is a digital protest organization I cannot get a clear picture of. It has taken over the role of Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace in campaigning against Norwegian whaling. But do they know what they are talking about or are they just spreading feelings of indignation about people they consider to be ‘bad’?
I fear the latter and therefor I republish an article I wrote in 1993 after a visit to the Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway, center of the Norwegian whalers. Most of the facts in the article are still valid. Take a balanced look at such facts and don’t let your independent judgement be blinded by organizations that play a game with your feelings.
At the end of the article there are some up-to-date facts. By the way, I lived some time at the Lofoten Islands in the early 1970’s and wrote a novel about living in Northern Norway.
